September 9, 2021Another subscription model, Microsoft 365, provides for an annual fee the latest versions of Office, Word and Excel, in addition to bonus items such as 1TB of storage in OneDrive for documents, photos and more. Teams is Microsoft’s beefed-up version with the latest features. There are no details yet on what features will be included in Office 2021, which is expected to hit the market later this year for Windows and Mac machines, but Microsoft plans to support Office 2021 with its one-time purchase model for five years.
It is designed to be a static version of Office that can be previewed and updated to include new features. Starting with release 1.6.17 in September 2018 the release notes will also apply to Office 2019 for Mac, a version of Office for Mac available in retail outlets on a one-time volume license agreement. There is also a business-focused product Office LTSC, which does the same thing but is aimed at companies who retain systems. The company has been made available through Microsoft’s official preview channel, indicating that Office LTC and Office 2021 for Mac will be available in the coming weeks.
Microsoft has not said what new features can expect from consumers, but noted that it plans to support the two new versions of Office and promised to share more details about features that are closer to release. It was also mentioned that Microsoft will not release updates for Office 2021 and Office 2019 in the long-term maintenance channel, but that the Office LTSC variant includes things like accessibility improvements, dark mode and support for other features such as xLookup and Dynamic Array in Excel. Microsoft’s official preview channel suggests that both products should be available in the coming weeks with monthly updates during the preview period to work with Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
Microsoft Office 2021 will be released later this year with a version called Microsoft Office LTSC, aimed at specific companies that do not rely on the performance of the cloud-based Office 365 suite. In a post on Thursday highlighting the upcoming commercial preview of Office, Microsoft announced that Office 2021, the latest version of its productivity suite of applications such as Word, Excel and others, will be available for Windows and Mac. The company also said it will support Office 2021 with a five-year procurement model.
Microsoft has also confirmed that Office 2021 will be available to Windows and Mac users, including the OneNote app, and will offer a choice of 32- and 64-bit versions. Microsoft announced its plans for Office 2021 on the Mac in February, but the Windows version was not available outside a pre-release this year. Microsoft stressed that its focus will remain on its Microsoft 365 subscription offering and that it will publish a new Flat-rate version of its Office productivity software in the coming years for those who are not ready to switch to the cloud.
While Office 2021 LTSC saw a preview in April, Microsoft says the consumer version won’t receive the same treatment. Microsoft has decided to commit to an open-ended version of Office so that there will be no price changes in the way the new version is supported.
Perpetual licensees will not have access to new features and updates that arrive in Office for users who pay for a recurring Microsoft 365 subscription. By upgrading your operating system to macOS 10.10.4, Office updates can be delivered to your apps. As of December 2020, 1644 updates are required for Microsoft 365 on Mac and Office 2019 on Mac, as well as MacOS 10.11.4 and Mojave to receive updates for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote.
In a blog post by the company on Thursday, Microsoft released more details about a new flat-rate version of its Office productivity software, which is due to be released later this year. In a paragraph in the blog post, the company confirmed that the next standalone, open-ended version of Office will be released for Windows and macOS in the second half of 2021. The new version of Office 2021, which will be available for both Windows and Mac, is a successor to Office 2019 which can be bought as a one-time free offer. Microsoft 365 Corporate Vice President Jared Spataro revealed in an official blog post published in February 2021 that the price of Office 2021 will remain unchanged at the time of release.
The price for the new Microsoft Office version is the same as for Office 2019 so you don’t have to worry too much about the prices when you switch from one to the other. Microsoft officials also announced last fall that a new version of Exchange Server, SharePoint Server and Skype for Business in the second half of 2021 will be released. These products are available to customers who have purchased a subscription license and are eligible for customer support, product updates and time zone patches. Microsoft Office 2021 brings many new features and changes, but the most mentioned and noteworthy is the fact that Excel, Word and PowerPoint are available to you for the first time as part of your subscription service.
Selon The Verge, two new alternative cloud versions of Office for Microsoft 365 for Mac and Windows for consumers and small businesses will be available later this year: Office 2021 Commercial and Office 2021 for large businesses and other organisations. According to Jared Spataro, Microsoft’s corporate VP, Office 2021 will be launched with tools such as Excel, Word and Outlook for small businesses and consumers by the end of 2021.
