Senior Systems Engineer

About the role
In this role you lead the hardest escalations and projects, set technical standards and mentor other engineers. You also explain technical risk to business leaders.
This is one of the roles Velocity Technologies recruits for year-round. The job may be with Velocity, or with an organization in the Phoenix area that we recruit for. Most positions are hybrid. We confirm the employer, pay, schedule and benefits with you before any interview.
What you'll do
- Lead escalations involving Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Active Directory, virtualization, servers, backup and recovery, firewalls and networks.
- Write standards for identity, endpoints, servers, backup, firewalls, documentation and hardware lifecycle.
- Give business leaders practical recommendations on risk, budget and sequencing.
- Review project plans and repeat ticket patterns, and fix root causes.
- Mentor engineers and help desk staff through runbooks, technical reviews and feedback on escalations.
You're probably right for this if
- You troubleshoot at a senior level across Microsoft cloud, Windows Server, identity, endpoints, backup and networks.
- You have made technical recommendations that business leaders acted on.
- You have supported several business environments, at an MSP or as a consultant.
- You lead other engineers and still keep your documentation current.
Useful but not required: building standards, onboarding checklists or engineering reviews; advanced Intune, Defender, Entra ID, Veeam or Datto, SonicWall or Fortinet, VMware or Hyper-V, or Azure; Microsoft 365 Administrator, Azure Administrator or Security+. Equivalent experience counts.
Pay
$103,000 to $142,000 a year.
